Inside us all is a special talent waiting to come out – the trick is finding it… County Durham, during the violent 1984 strike against closing the coal mines. Miner Jackie Elliot is not happy when his 11 year-old son Billy fails in his boxing class and even less happy when he discovers that Billy has sneakily transferred to the girls-only ballet class. Only one schoolmate and an enthusiastic teacher (Julie Walters) encourage him, even helping him try out for the world-renowned Royal Ballet audition – in secret.
Don’t miss the chance to catch this beautiful tale of perserverance and talent; our mini celebration of the Olympic values. Author of the book, written following the film’s success, Melvyn Burgess will also attend the screening for an introduction and a Q & A session prior to the film.
